What we do
We work to help the SIKAT project find sustainable financial help for the deprived families that have very limited access to everything. SIKAT will work happily with teachers, governors, parents, staff, children and the community to recognise the importance of educational opportunities and to give them the support their needs. We give them the support they need by
- Sending donated books and learning materials to the school
- Our regular trustee meetings
- Trustees visiting the school
- Collecting feedback from parents and teachers
- Evaluations of progress
- Involving local community leaders with projects
SIKAT has also been in contact with the following organisations, which have been able to assist in raising awareness of the SIKAT charitable trust and in fundraising
- BOND (British Oversees NGOs for Development
- Connections for Development supported by DFID
- MODA (Migrant Organisations Development Agency)
- LVSC (London Voluntary Sector Council
- Books Abroad of Aberdeen (who already ship books to the school in Calingag
- The Big Lottery Fund International Communities Program
- HMRC (who help with tax implication for the charity, and with claiming gift aid on donations)
SIKAT discussed and agreed that it was necessary to proceed with fundraising by
- Advertising in national newspapers
- Approaching large charitable organisations who are willing to make grants for SIKAT’s projects
- Writing proposal letters to the grant making trust
- Holding events to raise money
