Why Computer Technology Is Important for Our School

WHY COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY IS IMPORTANT FOR OUR SCHOOL To keep pace with the fast advancing world of Science and technology, all students, even those from remote Barangays like Calingag, deserve the opportunity to learn about and experience hands-on activities with Computers. This is in preparation for life after High School when, should students pursue higher education or certain career paths, a basic knowledge of computers is a great advantage. If they are given these initial skills early in life, they are in a better position to keep track with advancing technology throughout their working lives. Though Computer Education is not considered a basic subject in the ‘Basic Education Curriculum for Secondary’ most people would recognise the subject as a major skill needed for modern life. To provide students with learning and experience in this subject, they will be given a one-hour session per week as part of their Technology and Livelihood Education classes. The subject will be taught by teachers who are computer-literate and who have undergone a Basic Computer Training Course in College and have attended school-based training workshops in Computer Literacy. SIKAT was very grateful to the City of London company who donated the first computers to FKMCHS, giving students their initial experience with this technology and allowed the first computer lessons to be planned. It would be fantastic if this initial effort was the first step towards a successful program for the Francisco Kiko Manlises Calingag High School in the future.
